Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has sent an email to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to explain the situation, acting government spokesman Panitan Wattanayakorn said on Sunday.
The prime minister informed the UN chief that the ongoing political turmoil is an internal affair, and any intervention by an agency of a foreign country would do no good to that country, he added.
Mr Abhisit was confident that the government can settle the problem, according to Mr Panitan.
Mr Panitan said the situation on Saturday night to Sunday morning was improving and that tensions had eased.
He admitted that men in military uniform had infiltrated and killed red shirt protesters to incite violence.
The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation was investigating."

Channel 3 reported at 11:30 am that red-shirt protesters seized traffic light booth at the Din Daeng Intersection and light a big fire in the middle of road using tyres.
Think smoke was seen billowing.
The protesters also threatened to fire at authorities if they attempt to break up the rally at the intersection.

"All Bangkok schools will remain closed for another week
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has instructed all schools in Bangkok to postpone their new semester by one week.
Speaking live on his weekly TV programme, the prime minister said he has instructed all schools in Bangkok to postpone the new semester by one week.
Some schools in outer areas have already opened while those in inner Bangkok has not opened due to the rally at Rajprasong.
The schools will be open on May 24.

"Woman seen shot while observing protest at Bon Kai
A Nation reporter saw a woman shot at her head at 10 am Sunday while observing the protest in front of the Bon Kai community near the Rama IV expressway.
The situation at the Bon Kai area remained very tense as protesters set a huge fire in the middle of the road using several tyres.
They piled up tyres on at the Rama IV-Wireless Intersection and set fire to the tyres, causing thick smoke in the area.
The protesters appeared blatant and shouted to provoke troops.

"Chulalongkorn Hospital will be closed from Monday
The Chulalongkorn Hospital announced at 11 am Sunday that its medical services will be closed from Monday until further notice.
The statement said the situation outside the hospital is not safe for its medical personnel and patients so it decided to close its Outpatient Department and its special clinic after office hours until further notice.
It will also suspend all surgery operations except the case of emergency.
The hospital said the new school semester of its medical school will also be postponed to May 24.

"Bomb blast at Kae Rai bank

A grenade was thrown at the Kae Rai branch of the Bangkok Bank in Nonthaburi late Saturday night but no one was injured, said Pol Col Somsakchai Amornsongcharoen, Muang Nonthaburi police chief.
Police believed the bomb attack was politically motivated and was aimed at inciting trouble.
Nonthaburi governor Wichian Phutthiwinyu had visited the scene and had directed police to come up with additional security measures to protect branches of the Bangkok Bank in the province."
