21. THE JOURNEY

I like magic! Early next morning I was dreaming. That is, I believed I was dreaming. As on the previous days, some early morning birds were chirping so I am not sure. When I turned around in bed, the small box was there once again. Nothing rattled inside. I opened the box. There were some sheets of paper. I wanted to read chapter 21.

21. THE JOURNEY

- We are such stuff that dreams are made of?

John pinched his arm.

-          I feel I am made of something real, definitely not of dreams, Jill said. – I guess Shakespeare, or Prospero in The Tempest, was wrong. As we can travel in time now, let us go and have a look from the outside at major events in the two hundred years or so from around 1800 AD.

Jill was eager now.

-          1789. The French revolution. Lots of dignitaries were decapitated. Later the revolutionaries lost their heads. Things changed, but not very much. Liberty, equality, and brotherhood were still a dream of the future.

-          Let us move on, John said.

-          You do not want to dive in and experience the events of that time?

-          I absolutely not want to delve in the past. The catholic requiem mass starts like this: “Dies iræ, dies illa, Solvet sæclum in favilla: Teste David cum Sibylla.” In English it is something like this – “Day of wrath! O day of mourning! See fulfilled the prophets' warning, Heaven and earth in ashes burning!” - This is what has been going on from time to time in spite of spes, fides, caritas, - hope, faith, and love.

-          Then we better look forward, Jill exclaimed. – We jump to the year 2022.

-          Do you think we will see more of hope, faith, and love?

-          Who knows? Let us have a look.

End of chapter 21. To be continued in chapter 22.
