”Box jellyfish in Thailand/Malaysia – better go snorkeling”

Last winter there was found quite a lot of box jellyfish (sea-wasp) outside Phuket in South Thailand. Due to heavy rains in the wet season there is a possibility that the same will happen this year. If you swim into the tentacles of a box jellyfish the encounter can be fatal for you.

Why not go snorkeling? Then you can see what happens under the surface. If you are swimming you see almost nothing. I remember one year in  the wet season there were immense amounts of  a kind of jellyfish (maeng khaprun) which caused slight burns. No real problem, but it hurt a bit.

Better go snorkeling! Not too many corals around in the major tourist areas, but Ko Nang Yuan and the ”other” side of Ko Tao is not too bad. Water temperature is up to 30 degrees, and you can go swimming for as long as you want.
